New people entering positions, and familiar names leaving to do greater things. As our Alumni Relations Team comes to a close of a great year, we would like to highlight the best parts of September and October for Mu Chapter!  Skate Night Pictured Left to Right: Jack Bahr (Mu 2897), Davis Clark (Mu 2978), Mason Bruner (Mu 2970), Mac Lovein (Mu 2956), Will Cowart (Mu 2949), Walker Smith (Mu 2948), Jake Bryant (Mu 2985), Harrison Lee (Mu 2975)  What better way to start the year than remembering the 1970/80’s and disco skating. Brothers joined together at Fun Galaxy Athens to skate with dates and enjoy the struggle of rolling 5 feet without falling over. The annual freshman race also commenced, and Luke Payne (Mu 3005) took the win over his pledge class. However, there is some controversy and it is only right to honor the close second place to Jack Fernandez (Mu 3014). Everyone had a great time and walked away with only a few bruises.  – Jack McWard (Mu 2904)  Initiation of the 2024 Pledgeclass This fall, Mu Chapter proudly welcomed the 2024 pledge class and celebrated a momentous milestone: the initiation of our 3,000th member, Topher Ferarra. The ceremony took place in the Victor K. Wilson ballroom at Memorial Hall, where over 30 alumni from across the country came together to honor this achievement. Following the ceremony, brothers and alumni gathered at the house for a celebration filled with appetizers, beverages, and plenty of photo opportunities, strengthening the bonds of brotherhood. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for making this event a resounding success.  – Jack McWard (Mu 2904)  Speakers Series During the months of September and October, Mu Chapter had the distinct honor of hosting a series of exceptional speakers who generously shared their insights and experiences with our members. These visits not only enriched our understanding but also inspired us to grow personally and collectively.  Our series kicked off with Mr. Lovein, who captivated us with his journey through the insurance industry. His engaging stories from his time at UGA resonated deeply, offering a glimpse into the value of perseverance and adaptability in one’s career. Mr. Lovein’s passion for his work and his alma mater set a positive tone for the series, reminding us of the connections we forge during our college years.  Next, we welcomed Naval Officer Adam McDonald, who brought a wealth of military experience to our discussions. His stories from the field were both riveting and enlightening, providing a unique perspective on leadership and resilience. Officer McDonald emphasized the importance of discipline and teamwork, urging us to carry these principles into our daily lives as we navigate our own paths.  We were also privileged to hear from Head Baseball Coach Wes Johnson, who shared his insights about the UGA baseball team and the dynamics of coaching at a competitive level. His anecdotes about the challenges and triumphs of his career resonated with many of us, and his advice on perseverance and dedication reinforced the values we strive to uphold as a chapter.  To conclude our speaker series, we had the opportunity to engage with Megan Laconico from the Student Care and Outreach office. Her discussion on mental health was both timely and crucial, as she encouraged us to prioritize our well-being and foster supportive relationships within our chapter. Megan’s insights sparked meaningful conversations about the importance of creating a safe space for discussing our challenges and supporting one another.  We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of our speakers for their invaluable contributions and the time they dedicated to us. Their wisdom has left a lasting impact, and we are eager to implement their lessons in our lives. We look forward to welcoming them back in the future and continuing these important dialogues within our chapter. Thank you all for being part of this enriching experience!  – Jack McWard (Mu 2904)  Mu Philanthropy During the month of September, some underclassmen traveled to the City of Refuge in Athens, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. They provide various services aimed at helping people achieve stability and self-sufficiency. Our brothers are proud to have helped out and make an impact within the community.  – Jack McWard (Mu 2904)  Dawgs Football Pictured Left to Right: Troy Schmidt (Mu 2922), Luke Bornhorst (Mu 2907), Michael Dwyer (Mu 2905), Luke Tredennick (Mu 2914)  September and October were eventful months for both the Dawgs and the Brothers of Sigma Nu. Things kicked off at home against Tennessee Tech with artist Sam Burchfield. Some traveled to the all-too-close game in Lexington, Kentucky. The Dawgs took their first regular season loss in years, but we were together through it all. Where things really got exciting, though, was when well-known band, Futurebirds, took the stage on the back porch. Brothers, alumni, family, and friends gathered to listen before attending the “Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.” Parents came to town for Mississippi State to watch the better Dawgs come out on top. Finally, many made the trip to Austin, Texas, to watch Georgia knock off the No. 1 team in the nation on the road.  – Will Hearn (Mu 2968)  Parents Weekend Pictured Left to Right: Brady Kelly, Darden Hearn, Amy Hearn, John Hearn (Mu 2000), Will Hearn (Mu 2968)  On October 11th, Brothers’ parents made their way to Athens for this semesters’ Fall Parents Weekend. Each pledge class spent time individually, before gathering at a larger event for the entire chapter. On Saturday, there was a Bulldawg vs. Bulldog matchup, preceded by country musician Will Slater. It was an eventful tailgate surrounded by family. The good guys capped the weekend off with a win. – Will Hearn (Mu 2968)  Big Brother Night  Pictured Left to Right: Luke Ferrara (Mu 2866), Will Hearn (Mu 2968), Topher Ferrara (Mu 3000), Zach Jackson (Mu 2924)  It is an annual tradition to celebrate the entrance of freshman into the fraternity families. This year, the brothers had a blast getting to know the freshman who joined their families and celebrated family lineages that have continued for generations. We welcome the 2024 pledge class into these families and are excited to see the young men grow into the chapter. – Harrison Lee (Mu 2975)  Oktoberfest  Pictured Left to Right: Robbie Guttman (Mu 2934), Lyle Griffith (Mu 2929), Sam Peters (Mu 2994), Luke Tredennick (Mu 2914)  With October comes Oktoberfest! The brothers of Mu Chapter traveled to Helen, Georgia, where everyone is dressed in lederhosens and celebrates the festivities of the fall. Whether it was axe throwing, putt-putt mini golf, or enjoying the local cuisine, there was plenty to do and not enough time to enjoy it all. Towards the end of the night, all brothers and dates gathered at the event space to enjoy live music and refreshments. We enjoy the amenities of Helen every year, and are already looking forward to next year!  – Philip Wilder (Mu 2896)  Elections for Mu Chapter Pictured Left to Right: Former Commander Jack Bahr (Mu 2897) and Newly Elected Commander Will Pierotti (Mu 2942)  To close the month of October, the chapter hosted the annual election for Commander, Lieutenant Commander, and Treasurer. It was a tight race for Commander, with William Cowart (Mu 2949) and William Pierotti (Mu 2942) running. Lieutenant Commander was between Ryan Boswell (Mu 2930) and Nick Chadd (Mu 2947), while Treasurer was a stand alone race for Michael Bahr (Mu 2981). Congratulations to William Pierotti for being elected the new Commander, Ryan Boswell for being elected Lieutenant Commander, and Michael Bahr for being elected Treasurer. The future of the chapter rests in your hands, and we are all excited to see what is to come.  – Harrison Lee (Mu 2975)  Our Alumni Relations Team Harrison Lee (Sophomore)  Harrison Charles Lee was born and raised on St. Simons Island and attended Glynn Academy. Growing up surrounded by UGA alumni and Mu Chapter alumni instilled in him a strong sense of connection to both. However, his path to UGA was not typical; he initially wanted to explore options at other schools. After weighing the pros and cons, he ultimately decided that UGA was the right place for him, embracing his identity as a born Dawg. Harrison is currently a Biology (Pre-Med) major with a minor in Business, aiming to embark on the long journey to become a physician. He cherishes the lasting relationships formed in Mu Chapter, particularly with his pledge brothers, who serve as his support system at school. For incoming freshmen, Harrison advises stepping out of their comfort zones; they have been thrown into the deep end together, and by relating to one another, they can forge friendships that will last a lifetime.  Harrison’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/harrison-lee-785620291/ Will Hearn (Sophomore)  As a lifelong resident of Marietta, Georgia, Will Hearn grew up with a strong desire to attend the University of Georgia. To make this dream a reality, he attended Pope High School and actively participated in various activities to build his resume as a student and individual. Currently, Will is a Journalism student with aspirations to enter the sports media field. He interned for Bulldawg Illustrated, where he has already gained valuable experience by covering a variety of sporting events. One of his favorite experiences in Mu Chapter so far was the Auburn tailgate this year, where listening to Futurebirds with the entire chapter created an unforgettable atmosphere. Will advises incoming freshmen to stay grounded in their beliefs and to get involved early in their college experience.  Will’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/will-hearn-68324a242/ Troy Schmidt (Senior)  Troy Schmidt is a dedicated finance major currently pursuing a Master’s in Accounting. He is from Marietta, Georgia and a graduate of Pope High School. With a career goal of entering the audit field, he has gained valuable experience through acquiring a summer internship with an accounting firm’s audit team in public accounting. Troy has a passion for travel, often attending events and games with friends. A memorable trip involved sharing a hotel room with eight people in a two-queen bed setup in St. Simons. This summer, he broadened his horizons by studying in Madrid, Spain, alongside Jack McWard, where he secured a finance internship that allowed him to explore the country. For advice to freshmen in his chapter, Troy emphasizes the importance of making the most of summer opportunities, living in Athens without getting too caught up in distractions, staying on top of studies, and getting involved in rush and abroad programs to enhance their college experience. He reflects on his own freshman year at UNG, where he fell behind in the involvement aspect, highlighting the importance of campus involvement to avoid a similar fate.  Troy’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/troy-schmidt-51b3aa308/ Philip Wilder (Senior)  Philip Wilder hails from Valdosta, Georgia, and graduated from Lowndes High School. A lifelong Georgia fan, inspired by his father’s alma mater, he was born in Athens but moved to Valdosta when he was just one year old. Initially, Philip began his college journey majoring in business, believing it to be the safest choice. However, after taking a New Testament class in the Religion department, he switched to a double major in Communication Studies and Religion during his sophomore year. As he looks forward to graduating in the spring, Philip plans to pursue a career in vocational ministry and/or a seminary degree. One notable experience from his time in Mu Chapter was running the Athens half marathon last year with five of his pledge brothers, which took place the morning after Oktoberfest. His advice to freshmen is to join a local campus church or ministry and to cultivate a personal relationship with God, as he believes this has led to the best and most enjoyable adventure of his life.  Philip’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/phillip-wilder-540525220/ In Search of Speakers at Mu Chapter  In order to strengthen the professional development of Mu Chapter, we would like to institute a speaker series as a part of our LEAD program. Jack McWardSeptember 4, 2024Fellow Brothers and Alumni of Mu Chapter,  As fun and relaxing as this summer has been for everyone, I believe that we can all agree we are excited for one thing this fall: Georgia Football. As we enter the beginning of the school year, we can begin to remember the summer. Here is what Mu Chapter has been up to this summer and the month of August! Summertime Rush Events  Pictured (2nd from left to right): Ryan Goldstein (Mu 2954), Jackson McCoy (Mu 2971)This year’s rush process has officially come to a close. The team, led by rush chair Michael Pickens, recruited 36 new candidates. This class includes five legacies as well as twelve out-of-state candidates. Events included the annual Woodstock party, rafting down the Oconee, and gatherings across the state. At Woodstock, rushees met brothers on the back-porch, while listening to various bands and artists. Everyone made the trip over to Athens early June for another year of “rafting” down the Oconee river. The 4+ hour tube-ride was a huge success. Last but not least, brothers spent time with then-potential candidates in St. Simons for the 4th, Savannah, and various other places around Georgia.– Will Hearn (Mu 2968) Volunteering within the Community Pictured (2nd from left and 2nd from right): Mac Lovein (Mu 2956) and Ryan Hohenstein (Mu 2979) with new member candidatesExtra Special PeopleTo start the month of August off, some of our sophomores and the new member candidates went out to volunteer with Extra Special People in Watkinsville, Georgia. The brothers went through an introduction to the program and what ESP is about. They sang songs and got to know the people involved with the program, as well as learn about the history of the organization. They ended the day with a rock, paper, scissors race where the loser would cheer on the person that won against them. Overall, it was a great experience and everyone had a great time. Our chapter looks forward to continue helping with the organization and being apart of the community.– Will Hearn (Mu 2968) Internship Spotlights Fort LauderdaleBrother Hunter Lanier (Mu 2883) is a senior at UGA and spent his summer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida interning at First Pointe Advisors, a property tax consulting firm. At First Pointe Advisors, he focused on different valuation processes of several real estate assets that ranged from office spaces to self storage units. He used this new valuation skill during the property tax appeal process for clients such as CBRE. He enjoyed learning the different ways to find a cap rate, value a property, and serve the teams’ clients to the best of his ability. After college, he plans on using this new valuation skill back at home working in his family’s real estate investment and management business, Lanier Management. Hunter Lanier’s LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/hunter-lanier-a07a4921b/ Washington D.C.This summer, brothers Jack Bynum (Mu 2889), Joseph Waters (Mu 2886), and JD St. Pé (Mu 2863) worked congressional internships in Washington D.C. Jack and Joseph worked for representatives from Arizona and Georgia, while JD worked for a senator from Louisiana. In their roles as interns, these three had the opportunity to attend committee meetings, assist with legislative research, and give constituents tours of the U.S. Capitol. While there, they also attended a Sigma Nu meetup with the Georgia, Auburn, Virginia, and Arizona State chapters all being represented. Mu alumnni Bobby McMillin (Mu 2283) and Regent Maury Gaston attended the meetup as well. Outside of their internships, the two brothers traveled throughout Spain to places such as Toledo, Málaga, Sevilla, and more. They learned the cultural differences and how to communicate in Spanish with the locals. It was a great experience for both of the brothers and they hope to return very soon. InnsbruckDuring the course of July and part of August, a group of brothers in the 2022 pledge class traveled to Innsbruck, Austria where they took classes and enjoyed the scenic mountain views. A number of activities included hiking, skydiving, and traveling to different parts of Europe. The group spent a total of 6 weeks in Austria, where they learned different types of cultures and different ways of living. The experience was very beneficial for the group, and the brothers who attended the experience encourage future brothers to venture out to Austria as well.– Troy Schmidt (Mu 2922) Back to School School is back in full swing for the 2024-2025 academic year at the University of Georgia. All of the brothers have enjoyed getting equipped to their new classes and professors, while enjoying being back in Athens. Everyone had a great time on bid day and had a great time this past weekend in Atlanta where UGA took a 34-3 win over Clemson in the Mercedes-Benz stadium. In the past couple months, I have traveled to London, Paris, Switzerland, Berlin, Dublin, and the highlight of my experience so far has been visiting Iceland. First of all, I have learned a ton about public transportation and how to be more independent, but I have enjoyed learning about the art of finance from the global perspective. I like the teaching/learning style while abroad as it is a lot more hands-on.” When asked about a funny/memorable moment, Aiden said “When I was at a derby in London I asked this guy for his betting pamphlet and he was actually a former jockey with his own horse in the race named “Tribal Chief” so I threw a couple pounds on his horse and Tribal Chief got dead last place.”– Philip Wilder (Mu 2896)In Search of Speakers at Mu ChapterIn order to strengthen the professional development of Mu Chapter, we would like to institute a speaker series as a part of our LEAD program. With a spectacular performance from Underground Springhouse and Tommy 2000, we were all able to get in the mood for Woodstock coming up in a few weeks and say goodbye to the cold month of February. Shenanigans with face painting and frog themed decorations took place while the sweet sounds of Bob Marley and Widespread Panic played from the stage down below at the Chateau. Thank you to all who came and made the event possible!– Will Hearn PhilanthropyPhilanthropy was great for the month of February, thanks to our diligent Philanthropy Chair AJ Stevenson (Mu 2887). AJ made efforts with brothers at the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia to help sort food donations, and also took initiative within the chapter to host our very own donation drive. Brothers donated cans of goods, toiletries, and more to make an impact in the Athens community. In addition, the brothers who live in the house as well as the freshman had a group clean up with the other Greek Park Circle fraternities. Together, River Road became cleaner and more environmentally safe. – Philip Wilder Brother Spotlight Jack TerHaar Jack TerHaar, our current “Brother of the Month” at Sigma Nu, has an outstanding track record of accomplishments. Uncle Kracker, The Vegabonds, and Grace Asbury each contributed their unique musical prowess, creating a diverse and unforgettable experience for the attendees. AFTM seamlessly intertwined sets, maintaining an infectious energy throughout the night. Thank you to everyone who helped towards this year being more than a success.– Will Hearn Ole Miss TailgateIt was sad day to see our last home game of the year until 2024, but turned out for the better with a huge win the Ole Miss game. Starting off the weekend with Jam4Cam on Friday, and then on Saturday, an awesome tailgate before watching another Dawgs win under the lights. Upwards of around 1,000 people showed up and as you can imagine, the Dawgs heavily outnumbered the few Rebels that were in attendance. At least they were able to experience what a good time really is. Grandville stepped up and put on an awesome performance and Clarke’s bar never disappoints. This fall went smoothly thanks to previous social chair Dimitri Nakis and everyone that helped out. Until next year Sanford, until next year.– Troy Schmidt FranziaNovember 30th marked the last hoorah for the chapter prior to buckling down in preparation for a stressful exam season with our annual Franzia french themed date night. The house truly turned into a chalet as Christmas lights sparkled in the trees surrounding the house among Charcuterie boards, red carpets, lights strung from the indoor ceilings, glow-up Eiffel Towers illuminating dinner tables as a cellist, guitarist, and a violinist set the scene for a beautiful night in Paris. Huntley KingNovember 10, 2023UPCOMING Jam4Cam 2023We are now only nine days away from Jam4Cam, and with that being said, we are prouder than ever. With $150,000 raised so far, final details and preparations in place, and a swarm of red, black, and blue coming into Athens for Georgia vs. Ole Miss, it will be a weekend to remember! That being said, tickets are selling out quickly, and there is no guarantee for wait times and/or availability at the ticket counter on the event day, so if you are still looking to buy some tickets, read more on the history of the event,  or donate, please use the link below. I would like to give a special shoutout to the 4x4x48 team for their incredible running and donation efforts for this year’s event, the executive council of Jam4Cam for putting in a tremendous amount of work planning and fundraising, and anybody who has helped spread the message. While this event heavily focuses on the importance of the Athens community working together, it is also a great reminder of the lengths we will all go to in honor of our beloved brothers.  We can’t wait to see everyone there!!! https://givebutter.com/FZo8ah/huntleyking  September Skate NightPictured: Junior Mu Men at Fun Galaxy Roller Rink On Thursday, September 14th, Mu Brothers and their dates turned back the clock with the annual 80s RollerDisco Skate Night. Armed with the cheapest wigs Amazon sells, jean jackets, disco pants, headbands, and about 40 Marty McFly impersonators, everyone descended upon the Fun Galaxy Skating Rink for a fun night. As has now become a recurring tradition, those who have not lost the timeless art of rollerskating quickly strapped up and hit the floor at full speed, whereas the rest of us took a minute to mentally prepare for the bruises to come. As one may expect, it did not take long to see Brothers and their dates begin slamming, sliding, tripping, flipping, whamming, and crashing in a montage-like fashion with the soundtracks of Def Leopard, David Bowie, Springsteen, Duran Duran, and many others echoing around to cover up the choice words from the fallen. In case anyone was wondering by the summary of the night, yes, I am part of the group of non-gifted skaters who woke up the next morning covered in tender purple bruises. Nonetheless, it was a night to remember, and the post-skating recap conversations we had in the morning were nothing short of hysterical. However, I would be remiss if I failed to mention the undisputed highlight of the night, which was when Rush Chairman Charlie Woocher (Mu 2901) lowered a shoulder on an incoming Head Rush Chairman Nic Sapp (Mu 2875) and laid him out flat on the cold wood floor. Whether the collision was an intentional way for Charlie to settle a score with Nic or an “accident” has been widely debated; however, when asking Nic about the incident, he told me, “I may forgive for now, but I will not forget.” Looks like skating next year is going to be a blast!! Michael Barry and Judge Kevin MorrisPictured: Vice Regent Michael Barry (Right) and the Honorable Judge Kevin Morris (Left) With New Members On September 13th, Mu Brothers Judge Kevin Morris and Vice Regent Michael Barry returned to Athens to speak with members of Mu Chapter. In addition to leading a L.E.A.D. session focusing on Mu History, National Fraternity Operations, and Career Development, they were gracious enough to share stories of their college and professional careers. Within their session filled with laughter and lessons, a deeper meaning shone through to many of us that in this rollercoaster of life, it is crucial to be driven and focused while also knowing how to mix in good times with friends, family, and hopefully thunderous laughter along the way. Among other lessons we were left with included that it is okay not always to have a plan, personal and professional relationships are not to be taken for granted, and that no matter how tempting a thank you text may be to save time, the dying art of a thank you note will go further than our screen-obsessed generation may believe.  October InitiationPictured: The 2023 Initiate Class On Sunday, October 1st, Mu Chapter welcomed 40 initiates, 10 of whom are legacies. We are proud of this group of young men we have brought together from all over the country, including California, South Carolina, Colorado, North Carolina, Arizona, and Massachusetts. This class is very capable and well into developing as a great group of young men that will continue to make Mu Chapter great. Among enjoying the fruits of the freshman experience Athens has to offer, these young men have jumped into activity in the chapter by competing for positions on committees, taking careful note of the chapter’s operations, and getting a jumpstart on academic excellence on campus. While many of us are envious of the abundant time ahead in Athens, initiation always serves as a great reminder of the wonderful process of developing as a member of the school, fraternity, and society alongside dozens of best friends during one’s time at UGA. Congratulations to these young men, and I believe I speak for all older members of Mu Chapter when I urge them not to skip class, even 8:00 a.m., try to get some sleep every once in a while, and not do anything that would embarrass their mothers. Parent’s WeekendPledge Classes of 88′ and 89′ Pictured From Left:Tim Quinn, Noel Williams, Scott Veal, David Sellars, Charles Tumlin, Eric Ferrara, Patrick Pierce, Hodges Bradberry, and Frank Jackson Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th of October served as parent’s weekend for Mu Chapter this year. Among traveling hibachi food trucks for the juniors, a private event at Paloma Park, and a fantastic tailgate with a top-shelf bar that Mu brothers aren’t used to, it is safe to say the weekend was a success. When asking Social Chair Dimitri Nakis what the key to this fall’s success was, he said, “It truly is a miracle what can be done when you rally a team of great moms to help plan the event paired with the motivation of getting cut off from grocery money if I don’t make sure everything is perfect.” In all seriousness, thank you, parents, for treating us to a great weekend of family, nice meals, a Dawgs win, and helping teach us how to hang clean shirts instead of leaving them in the basket. With a regrown connection to legacy in recent years, this weekend also turned out to be a great alumni gathering, as many now fathers of the chapter were able to reconnect with friends in the beautiful town that holds so many memories and will hopefully continue producing more for Mu Men for centuries to come!! Photo Credit to Dr. Eric Ferrara  Big Brother NightPictured Mu Family From Left: Jack Mcward, Payton McKemie, Sam Shelton, and William Cowart On Monday, October 9th, we hosted one of the most highly anticipated nights of the year, Mu Chapter’s annual Big Brother night. While some literal younger brothers were added to their siblings’ families within the chapter, the rest of the freshman class embraced their families and their sophomore bigs. Beyond this night is associated with many great memories ranging from family traditions and big brother impersonations; this night is a fun way to urge the new initiates to be comfortable reaching out to and relying on older guys. While the festivities can sometimes become hectic, as naturally happens when 160 college men are gathered together in the house, freshmen learn that senior members of the chapter are mentors, motivators, and caregivers for when things go awry. Highlights of the night include being together on the back porch as a whole fraternity, impromptu wrestling matches, a well-timed Austin Riley home run mid event giving us a little happiness in an otherwise bleak Braves performance, and Sophomore Luke Tredennick introducing a red snapper into his family. OktoberfestPictured: Senior Mu Men and Their dates During UGA Football’s bye-week, Mu Chapter planned its annual invasion of Helen, Georgia, for Oktoberfest. Among lederhosen as far as the eye can see, brothers enjoyed German beer, bratwurst, minigolf, and mountain coasters before gathering in the beer hall for dancing under the serenade of a live performance of Bavarian music. This annual tradition has won the hearts of almost every brother, as it allows for a change of scenery, culture, and routine for a day in the quest to continue the event’s reputation among sororities as the best date night of the year. When I asked Junior John Bowling his thoughts on the event, he told me that “there is no way to beat the day. I mean, how can you beat having 160 of your friends and their dates all dressed up, dancing, and hollering around the town while everyone else is sitting on their couches in Athens, trying to figure out how to spend the week off of Georgia Football?” Adding to John’s point, the real key to success is the combination of having a day that allows for maximal chapter attendance, fantastic execution on the part of the Executive Council, and excitement that brothers build throughout the weeks leading up to ensure that the day always exceeds expectations.  [...]
Tyler EgeNovember 10, 2023Good afternoon Alumni, The active chapter has had a fantastic fall semester and we are so excited to share what we have done in the last few months. Founded in honor of our late brother Cameron Fearon, Jam For Cam set out to host a festival-style event in remembrance of Cameron and to bring awareness to melanoma research for the second straight year. This year Jam For Cam hosted seven  bands for eight and a half hours of non-stop music. We moved locations to Southern Brewing Company and created a strategic partnership with them that was critical to our success. We are proud to announce that Jam For Cam 2019 was attended by 10,000 people and raised just over $120,000! This makes Jam For Cam UGA’s largest private greek fundraiser and puts us just under $200,000 raised in our first fiscal year. We thank all Mu alumni who supported us along the way. Tyler EgeNovember 10, 2023Dear Mu Alumni, The active chapter had a fantastic September. Check out the updates below! The active chapter invites all alumni and their families to tailgate at the house for the home game against Missouri. The alumni tailgate will consist of food catered by Saucehouse, music and a brief program for active members and alumni. Please stay tuned for more details as we wait for an announcement on the time of kickoff! We are thrilled to announce the initiation of the fall 2019 pledge class into brotherhood! Last Sunday, the 45 member class was successfully initiated as brothers in front of the active chapter and attending alumni. The class comes from all over the state as well as the country such as Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina, Louisiana,  Tennessee, and California. Thank you to all alumni who attended last week’s event as we are honored to partake in our time-honored ritual together. Congratulations to Marshal Charlie Ogletree (MU 2669) for running a fantastic candidate program! This September, the active chapter and the newly initiated candidate class were honored to welcome four distinguished alumni back to the Chateau. Michael Barry (MU 2071), Ben Woodworth (MU 1032), Regent John Hearn (MU 2000), and Luther Lockwood (MU 1901) all took the time to speak to the brothers about a variety of different subjects. Mr. Barry spent time educating the candidates on the power of standing up to hazing while having them partake various situational activities. Mr. Lockwood spoke on the history of Mu chapter while telling the story of James Bonham and founding of Mu chapter. Regent Hearn also helped educate the new class on the history of Sigma Nu while adding both college and life advice. Finally, Mr. Woodworth, who spoke on his stories in the Navy while teaching the values of proper leadership. We can’t thank our incredible alumni enough for their continued commitment to the active chapter. Mu chapter made the most of the Dawgs bye weekend by traveling to Helen Georgia to celebrate Oktoberfest. Brothers and their dates dressed their best in authentic German lederhosen and began exploring the town. The group quickly found food at the many Helen pubs and restaurants available. The evening then lead to a Helen beer hall, The Helen Oktoberfest, where brothers and their dates were greeted by multiple German bands and beer. As the event came to a close; it was evident that the brothers had a great time with the idea of starting this tradition well into the future. Jam For Cam is just one week away and the brothers are hard at working trying to recreate the success of last year’s event. If you missed last year, Jam For Cam is a non-profit organization founded in honor of our late brother, Cameron Fearon who passed away from metastatic melanoma in August of 2018. Jam For Cam’s three pronged mission of community, awareness and music is culminated in a concert-style event hosted in the fall of every year. This year, Jam For Cam will take place at Southern Brewing Company in Athens, GA and will feature 7 bands will an expected attendance over 5,000 people. The brothers couldn’t be more excited to raise money and awareness for The Melanoma Research Foundation and are counting down the seconds until the event. We invite all alumni who find their way to Athens next weekend to come join us at 5pm on Friday October 11th. If you would like more details or would like to support the cause check out the website, jam4cam.com, or reach out to me at “bennettporson@gmail.com “.
