April 27th, 2019: 5th Annual Classic City Bowl in Athens

We’d love to see Mu Alumni at the 5th annual Classic City Bowl at 3pm in the Clark Central High School Stadium.

This year Mu will be playing Sigma Chi while raising money for the Bob Woodruff Foundation, among other charities.

For more information go to classiccitybowl.com

Spring and summer rush is well underway for our Fall 2019 candidate class. If you know of a high quality young man enrolling at UGA that would make a strong Mu brother, please send his name and information to our Recruitment Chair, Cole Smith, at muchapterrecruitmentchair@gmail.com

This past weekend Mu chapter returned to our roots as we hosted our annual spring party and changed the name back to the original Woodstock. Planned by Colin Beecham (M 2696) and Charlie Ogletree (M 2669), the party was an absolute success. Unlike previous spring events, the party was hosted in the front yard and parking lot, which allowed for more space and a better environment for the entertainment. Boasting five bands and food truck, the party grossed over 1,000 in attendance and lasted from 3pm to midnight.

Junior David San Fratello (M 2697) took the brave leap of faith and entered the Great Southland Rodeo this past week. David competed in the bull riding competition and was the only UGA student competing against professionals from across the country. Assigned the heaviest bull in the rodeo by 100 pounds, Top Eliminator, David went for three seconds in front of a 4,000 people. David has 100% confidence he will ride in next year’s rodeo and knows next year he’ll go the full 8 seconds.

Mu chapter held a a brand new date night this past month called “Late Night with Rick”, named after Jack McGolrick (M 2665). The date night was late night themed and brothers and their dates dressed down into comfy pajamas. The night began at a local roller rink where some brothers thrived but most spent the majority of the night lying on the floor. Following roller skating, the brothers made their way back to the house where a band was waiting along with food from Raising Cane’s. The date night was a huge hit with the active chapter and is sure to be a long standing tradition in the future.

As mentioned earlier this month, Mu Chapter had the incredible honor of hosting alumni Tom Johnson (M 1232), Don Rountree (M 1203), and Gerry Whitworth (M 1492) as guest speakers.  This was Tom’s first time speaking to the chapter since the dedication of the New Chateau, and the active brothers agreed that this visit was one of the most memorable alumni visits in recent history . Tom brought his pledge shirt along with him, which can be seen in the picture below, and he spoke about the lessons life taught him.

We are actively looking for Mu alumni speakers for the remainder of this semester and next Fall, so if you or someone you know is interested in speaking to the chapter, we would love to have you. We love to learn from the professional experiences of our alumni and also hear stories of the days when our alumni were a part of the active chapter. If this is something you would be interested in please reach out to me at mualumnichair@gmail.com. Thank you!
