On November 7th, the Greek Life Office held the annual Greek Awards Banquet, honoring the work of UGA chapters in areas such as academics, philanthropy, health & wellness, and leadership. Out of those awards, Mu Chapter won Greek Life Chapter of the Year, as well as awards in Alumni Involvement, Philanthropy, and Health & Wellness. Congratulations to everyone involved in making such a large impact in our chapter and on campus. This outstanding work can attest to our chapter’s hard work and perseverance following an interesting year. After receiving these awards, our chapter is excited and determined to continue this excellent work moving forward.

Welcoming Family and Mu Alumni to Athens

Friday November 5th, Mu chapter kicked off Parents’ Weekend with a great event at the Foundry in Athens.  Brothers and their parents were able to spend time together, enjoying drinks and live music from Pseudo Band.  The following morning, active brothers, their parents, and alumni gathered for a joint parent and alumni weekend tailgate.  At the house before the game, there was a large breakfast spread, along with beverages.  Following the 43-6 trouncing of Missouri, everyone returned to the house to listen to an acoustic set by Grandville and catch up with one another.   After missing a Fall Parents’ Weekend and Alumni Tailgate last year to Covid, the brothers of Mu chapter were grateful for the wonderful time they had this year.

Classic City Open:

On November 7, a group of 84 brothers, alumni, parents, and friends gathered at The Chimneys golf club to compete in the second annual Classic City Open golf tournament. After the fraternity was unable to host the Classic City Bowl in 2021 due to the pandemic, 2020 Philanthropy Chair Harrison Hoch pivoted to a more Covid-friendly golf tournament in its place. The first installation was such a success that the tournament will become a staple of our fall philanthropy efforts. This year the tournament was played at The Chimneys Golf Club in Winder, GA, and everyone enjoyed a morning of sun, friends, and hopefully a few birdies.  The tournament was won by Luke Ferrara, Jon Domescik, Hank Flood, and Alex Odom (who all unfortunately did not take a picture together).  Thanks to our sponsors and players, Mu Chapter was able to raise over $5,000 dollars for local Athens Charities, the Backpack Project and Wishmakers on Campus. We look to continue hosting the tournament every fall, and hopefully we can be even more successful in the upcoming years!

Mu Chapter in France:

On the evening of November 14th, the brothers arrived with their dates for our annual French Chateau date night. The basement, decorated with string lights from wall to wall and accompanied by a banner of the Paris skyline, teleported each member to a night in Paris. The house quickly became filled with brothers and their dates sporting cheese and baguettes, barrettes and turtlenecks, mimes, and faces with curly-q mustaches. The band played an incredible set as many of the brothers could be seen dancing and singing along to the music. As the party ramped up, some of the lights were repositioned to the floor, baguettes became scarce, and many mustaches became smudged, but this did not stop the fun. Although some folks have never been out of the country, our French date night did an incredible job setting the mood of an authentic night in Paris.

New Member Spotlight:

Freshman Jack Bahr (M2896) actively supports the values of Sigma Nu on a daily basis and is a member of the 2021 candidate class.  Jack attended Dunwoody High School in Dunwoody, Georgia.  After going through rush this past summer, Jack remarked that Sigma Nu stood out to him because of the strong values demonstrated by the rush team.  He said that he could tell that every brother was genuine and that they all cared deeply about one another.

Jack is actively involved in multiple on campus organizations.  He volunteers with Extra Special People and he is a member of the family relations committee for UGA Miracle.  After a well put and convincing speech, he was elected to be Mu Chapter’s new recorder.  Jack is an intended Economics major and after he graduates he plans to go into a career where he can help people and have an impact on people’s lives.

After looking back on this fall semester he is thankful for all the opportunities that he has had.  He is proud to be a member of Sigma Nu and he is grateful for the meaningful connections that he has formed with his 160 brothers.  In his freetime, Jack is an avid Braves and Dawgs fan, and he enjoys spending his time outdoors at places like Camp High Harbour.

Mu Chapter is proud to have you representing our chapter Jack!
