150th ANNIVERSARY MARK YOUR CALENDARS

To celebrate Mu chapter’s 150th Anniversary the current Executive Council and a special committee are planning a party with the hopes of bringing everyone back to Athens. Please go ahead and add the event to your calendars. Saturday January 21, 2023 will be a black tie event at the Classic Center in Athens from 6-10pm. There will be dinner, a short presentation and a band. The day will also include an open house on River Road during the afternoon as well as gatherings for groups of pledge classes following dinner. All alumni are invited and we are really excited to share more information about event registration and details as we continue planning it.

Jam for Cam

Sigma Nu’s annual Fall philanthropy, Jam for Cam, went off without a hitch on Friday, October 7th.  Jam for Cam is a concert held in Cameron Fearons honor (M2719).  He passed away from melanoma in 2018, and now Mu Chapter hosts an annual concert in remembrance of Cam to raise money for melanoma research, suicide prevention, and Camp Carolina.  This year the concert was held at Southern Brewing Company and many bands played, headlined by Ripe.  The fundraising could not have been more successful, with $180,000 raised for charity.   We are extremely proud of everyone who worked so hard on this to make the event a success and are honored to continue Cameron’s legacy with Jam for Cam

Oktoberfest

Every year, the city of Helen, Georgia replicates the old german tradition of Oktoberfest by decorating the town and bringing in german bands to entertain its visitors. On October 2nd, the brothers of Sigma Nu joined in on the festivities and gathered together in lederhosen in celebration. The brothers took full advantage of the opportunities that Helen, Georgia provides, playing mini golf, riding down the alpine roller coaster, and taking part in various German dances. Overall, it was a great night to be introduced to a different culture and take part in a tradition that seems destined to continue for a long time.

Parents Weekend

Parents weekend for Sigma Nu this year was a great success.  Over 200 hundred parents joined us for the weekend of the UGA vs. Vandy football game.  On Friday night, fellow Sigma Nu’s and their parents attended an event held at Allgood Lounge from 8-10. The parents had a fantastic time reliving their college days in Athens!  On Saturday before the game, Chick Fil A was provided along with mimosas for brunch while a band played. On Sunday, many fathers and sons participated in the Classic City Open held at the Chimneys Golf Course where freshman Will Herren and Coleman Smith and their fathers came out on top.  Over $1,000 were raised for Jam for Cam from the golf tournament.

GA/FL

To celebrate fall break, the Brothers of Mu Chapter traveled to St. Simons Island to join in the festivities surrounding the Georgia-Florida game. We began arriving on Thursday afternoon, and the vast majority of the chapter was on the island in time for the annual costume party on East Beach on Friday afternoon. Fun was had by all, but the weekend only improved from there. Busses departed from Brunswick at 9:00 AM on Saturday to travel to Jacksonville for a tailgate prior to the game. Underground Springhouse, a local Athens band, played an exceptional set. The mood only improved once the game started, with our win against the Florida Gators giving the Dawgs strong momentum heading into this Saturday.

New Member Spotlight: Sam Allgood

This fall the Mu chapter was excited to initiate 42 new brothers into the Mu chapter. Among the many outstanding young men, Sam Allgood has exemplified himself to uphold the values of Sigma Nu. Sam is from Atlanta, GA and went to The Lovett School. Sam has followed in the steps of his father, Lanny Allgood Mu 2147. Lanny was Treasurer, Alumni Chair, and IFC Recruitment Chair while being active at UGA from ‘93-’97. His uncle is also the current Vice President of Student Affairs at UGA. Sam has begun his involvement at UGA by joining the UGA Miracle team, as well as being active in Jam for Cam fundraising by raising over $2,500. We look forward to watching Sam grow as a brother and tracking all of his accomplishments.
